Mammut shops have (had?) a gear recycling in their shop. Havent needed to recycle anything yet so haven't used it myself. As far as I understand they will recycle any brand as well and they used to offer a discout on gear in store when you did recycle something

I think classifieds are a good thing but I don't think a forum heading is a very good way to go about it. This needs some back-end input from Magicala. It should be possible to: - not see it in Latest Posts
- remove notices once article(s) sold
- possibly to auto-remove on a timeout to keep stuff fresh
Mammut shops have (had?) a gear recycling in their shop Rohan's Keswick shop have a deal with Oxfam that you can take back old kit (Rohan only though, I think) and they'll give it to Oxfam for resale and give you 10% off your next purchase. Grangers had a thing some time ago where you could hand in old waterproofs, they'd reproof them and send them on to Oxfam but that seems to have vanished now. Pete.

Yup... I'd go for that one... When I'm desk-bound, I'll usually have an OM window open in case anything interesting pops up, so unless something appears somewhere near the top of the list of 'Latest Posts', then I won't see it. If dozens of posts relate only to kit sales, then nothing really catches my attention, so I don't post, and my interest in the site as a whole wanes. One day when it looks like I've gone away for a while... it might actually be that I've gone away for good!

How will you advertise your guides then Paddy ?

If Latest Posts can survive Trev, it can survive anything The classifieds stuff doesn't bother me, I just skim past them. It'd be even easier if folk stuck to the FS or WTD prefix in the thread title. Blame the rise in Ebay & Paypal fees for the number of "pro's" on here selling stuff.

sometimes there are a lot of posts from people selling stuff. sometimes it's just asking the same question. i just visually filter them out. just like i do with the screensful of emails i receive at work.

I agree. The existing system works fine for me. It's not exactly a demanding task to ignore any classified threads if you're not interested. I think that those threads only seem more numerous because of the relatively few threads started on outdoor topics - activity seems quite low these days. Anyway, if we're hassling Jon to change anything - sort out the reviews section

 reviews? there are reviews?

Looking at the 'for sale' threads, certain names pop up again and again. Some only ever post to sell stuff. Now, either they're kit magpies who cannot resist shiny stuff, and then find it's not 'perfect', and then repent and sell it on ('used once to walk to the pub'), or they have some other source of gear. I'm a magpie, but I keep all my shiny gear, and very rarely sell any of it. I wonder how much money these people must spend in search of 'perfection'... Care to suggest any names for the usual suspects...?
Hi Cp,
I buy and sell a lot of second kit via OM Classifieds, Ebay and backpackinglight.com if it doesnt fit, or does not do what I want then it goes up for sale rather than gathering dust and tying up cash. I also buy and sell kit for Mrs, Buddies and Father as they ask me to source or sell it for them. I often get slagged off about on OM and to be honest its wearing a bit thin. cheers, Stephen Edit: Hi CP. Forgot to say I have a one in one out Deal with my Mrs. so I often will advertise something to see if it will sell and if it does I will go ahead and get the new one, if not I will hold on horses

 > I often get slagged off about on OM and to be honest its wearing a bit thin. I'd sell it then, before it wears out completely... No slagging of anyone intended by this thread; it's just a mildly quizzical observation.

I've got the same arrangement with my Mrs .
Stephen, i've never seen you slagged off, people joke about it but thats all.

Your cool Mick, its just the odd comment thats gone a bit far. I dont want to go in to details. Thats me off for a beer

Stephen, don't get upset - you live in a miserable flat country as I understand it and dream of mountains that you can only visit occasionally. You're lucky enough to be able to afford to play with kit, and generous enough to flog it off at decent prices. All I hope is you hang on to your Mrs longer than some of your sleeping bags.

 Thanks Als

Folks, Just to clarify, it was a comment a few days about my Mrs. that made me post earlier that the slagging off was wearing a bit thin, ALS's comment has has just added to my annoyance. Lets just put this to bed and forget about it. Good night all, Stephen

Only just seeen this thread. Interesting in a couple of ways - Seems banter can go to far, even with regulars. Which is a shame. I read the comments and chuckled, but that is my sense of humour I suppose - then surprised that he was hacked of. Goes back to my post on "OM Triangle" without being able to read people body lanquage etc, interpretation is difficult. It is also interesting to see (as I have elsewhere on the site) individuals are very quick to say sorry, when someone is offended. I agree that Ebay etc have had an effect of sales through the site. I have purchased a couple of things and been disappointed. Problem is, no recourse. Although I would assume that the regular members are happy to discuss. I know... that you were joking and I'm a paranoid cynic!! No such thing - Your are a realist PS : One wife going on classifieds - little used, but still needs attention LOL

Hi Chewie, I agree with what your saying about the interpretation, if I have met the person face to face before at meets, courses or have spoken to them quiet a lot on here then its much easier to take what they are saying in context. If I havent spoken to the person much before or they have changed their profile name (and I dont know) then it can be quiet hard to know where the person is coming from with the comment. If you read back my posts from the last couple of years you will see I do normally receive banter quiet well. I agree that Ebay etc have had an effect of sales through the site. I have purchased a couple of things and been disappointed. Problem is, no recourse. Although I would assume that the regular members are happy to discuss.
I hear you on the ebay thing , buying stuff on OM is far easier as folk are clued in to the specs and capabilities of the kit, often on ebay its folk just selling random kit.
Have a great weekend Stephen
