Hi there, my names sam, this is my first post on here. I live I'n the south of England near Brighton, love the outdoors and am serving TA. I recently ran a 60 mile ultra marathon and my goal is to run the sahara race one day!

Anyways, I'm going to Brecon this weekend and looking to stay overnight to show a friend some basic field craft, shelter making etc. I've only been the once, and an unsure of many wooded areas I'n which to wild camp. Id like to do a few usual peaks including Pen Y Fan, and from memorie, the only wooded area is near storey arms, or further along by the road.
I could pitch a basha up anywhere if needs be, but ideally am after some nice dense woodland to make use of the fallen branches.

Any idea would be great, thanks

There's lots of forestry areas - just look on the map. Much of it owned by the Forestry Commission and I have no idea of their views on bushcrafting in their forests. Be aware that there have been outbreaks of larch disease in South Wales, so keep an eye open for any restrictions and please adhere to any

A little bit like the thread about hunting in the Cairngorms this but not so Trollish.  Realistically what you want to do doesn't fall easily into this country. Wild camping as such is not legal (certain exmptions apply) and I am sure that both the Fc and private woodland owners would not be keen. See above exemptions.

The whole bush craft idea doesn't really work as unlike, say America,  there is little need. it's not really suitable. I am not saying that it can't be done, just that it doesn't really fit.

Just chuck in another point that may or may not be worth noting. The bushcraft fraternity is often looked at in a funny way by more "conventional" outdoors type who see them as Rya Mear wannabes.  You might get more response on a bushcraft based forumn.

Please note I make no judgements. (although my typing is crap)

Field craft and bushcraft are not the same thing.

Not quite in the area you are asking about and may be a little more tame, but this place is more than happy for you to light fires and build shelters in their woodland.
