Fully zoomable, interchangeable between scanned paper mapping and digital mapping, and better aerial photography than Google Earth. Also, click anywhere to get co-ordinates, draw lines wherever you want and it will measure them. Brilliant resource! (Can't find much use for the infra-red imaging... but maybe one day!)
May help to assess vegetation and soil moisture - in theory you could find that nice dry grassy camping spot rather than the reedy swampy bit. Depends on how they have mapped the colours.

I agree with Jim concerning the time to visit Norway (and Sweden too). June is a difficult month. Lots of snow in the mountains, and it may be melting and flooding the rivers. And around midsummer (23/6) the mosquitos are at the peak plus or minus a week or two. Best time is from middle july till end august, maybe stretch it a week into september.
If TFB decides to try the Saltfjellet area I have several routes he may choose from. What I need is a hint of the distance TFB thinks he covers on a normal track. And also if he wants to hike close to glaciers, a round trip, and other wishes.
Yes Stormdalen is a gem, and they have just finished improving the hut there. It was a bit shabby the last time I was there, but now its supposed to be nice. Only trouble is the access for tourists. Not all are as lucky as me, my best man at my wedding lives just close to the entrance of the valley .
