Probably been asked before but can't find it and running out of time so will ask the experts on here. Can anyone recommend a cheap place to stay in Horton in Ribblesdale or nearby to get an early start on the Y3P?? Think I'd prefer horton as I think some people I know will be there but can only think of the campsite but can't remember if it will be open now.
Anyone any other ideas?
I'm guessing in October you won't need to book in at the campsite.
I know at Ribblehead Viaduct at the Station pub there is supposed to be a bunkhouse but will probably have a very early start on the day and probably getting drunk in Horton afterwards so need to be there really.
Helwith Bridge - the inn has a tiny 4 people bunkhouse called Hotel Paradiso and a pitch. 2.50 for the bunkhouse (no facilities, just beds), pitch is free if you patronise the pub.
Avoid Horton's campsite at all cost unless you want a party, in which case, go for it, it's great fun sharing a drink with the old guy who owns it in his big tent. But it's fucking noisy to say the least...
There's also a bunkhouse attached to the pub in Horton, the one just down the road from the campsite, opposite the church. I think it's a bit bigger and dearer than the Helwith one.
Edit: here you go, The Golden Lion, not The Crown further up the village, £12 for the bunkroom, probably cashing in on 3-Peakers...
I keep meaning to do a speed round again but we had a bit of rain again this year and last year the bog trot between PYG and Viaduct was bad as was the wide river we had to cross. Water over the knees and a lot of wandering around looking for a way across the river/bogs.
I've heard about the noise there but earplugs make everything ok.
There is something at Crag Farm too which sounds quieter. Anyone know where that is?? Read something about it being up a side road somewhere and about a 10 minute walk along the river to Horton centre.
Anyway, will do it this weekend the Y3P and hopefully do my speed round a bit later on if we get a dry spell. Do that speed round from the Viaduct side to PYG first then round, finishing after coming down from Whernside. Reckon that is a faster way somehow.
I noticed a field with a tap in it and a notice of only camping with permission by the river between Horton and Helwith Bridge too, might be worth a nosy.
I had earplugs too but the shrieking harpy intent on providing her drunken opinion to everybody who could hear her was still hard to ignore...
