 OK, it's probably a missprint, and it's only in a photo name, but the hill is Scafell, and not Scarfell. I'm not going to get into stuff about pronunciation, because I already have a headache.

OK, a note of explanation. I believe that place names are important to the cultures that create them and which they, in turn, influence. For that sole reason, I am in the habit of drawing attention to glaring inaccuracies in place names. I have never held myself to be an arbiter of grammar, spelling or style. Over recent weeks, my posts have attracted comments which imply that people hold a critical view of me because I have corrected a number of place name errors on OM. I enjoy hanging round the OM site. I don't enjoy this crap. I hope everyone continues to get out there and enjoy the outdoors. I'm closing my OM account today.

I'm pulling your leg, Slioch, not having a go at your spelling or grammar. I wasn't aware of any other thread or 'critical views'; I don't go in for that sort of 'data logging'. I saw the irony of a typographical error in a post about a spell checker's error, and made a light-hearted comment, which I thought was in the same vein as your OP; surely your OP wasn't a serious complaint? For heaven's sake, don't go off in a huff because of a few light-hearted, ironic comments.

Tut tut. It is "hanging around". At least have the courtesy to use an appropriately inserted apostrophe if your going to run riot with the Queen's English.

Tut tut, to you, Rocky. "Round" without the "A" or the apostrophe, with the use and meaning in, "I enjoy hanging round the OM site. I don't enjoy this crap.", is actually correct and has been for about a century. Your etymological didactism is misplaced in this instance. Of course you are correct, too, if a little anachronistic. Ref: OED and Fowler's A Dictionary of Modern English Usage. Beat that for pedantry, Slioch.
