JC5. Unfourtunally snow can be very unpredictable in Ireland, even in winter. If we do get snow might not last for more than a day, or like last year had loads of snow and ice, lasted for a month and temp. was down to -18c at night even in cities. Much lower in rural areas, I was out in Mournes in Nov. 2010 and where I camped was -20c. Never, in 35yrs there have I seen temps. that low. Paul.

Would have gone to this, but I'm on a coaching course on the Friday and Saturday. Maybe if Irish based peeps would be interested in doing another weekend soon, we can arrange something then as well? Just a thought.

JC5, IIRC wild camping is against the law in Ireland, but is 'tolerated' by most land owners. If you can ask the land owners permission, if not be "discreet" and don't cause damage, light fires, etc. Leave as little evidence as possible, so other camper's can do the same. If asked to leave land, do so politely, set up camp some where else. I, have never had a problem, but I set camp as late as possible and try to be away at sunrise. Stephen may know more but is travelling tonight and off line at moment. When I see him I'll ask him and if he can will reply or I'll do so when I get back. Paul.

LennyJ1, Sorry you couldn't make this one, next time now I/we know you are interested, can PM you with details of next meet in Ireland. Stephen should be back in April and some on OM are interested in a meet in Kerry, staying in a Youth Hostel. When I know more I/we will post, or I'll PM you. Paul.

Cheers Milly. I am already planning the April meet Hi All, Paul and I had a great two days traverse of the Galtees from Skeehanrinky to Rossadrehid. Gusts at the top of Galtymore where 50mph plus, it was hard to walk at stages. We wild camped at 400m just below Lough Curra, when we picked a site we where sheltered forn the wind, we went off to get water and when we started putting up the tents we where hit by 60mph winds all the way from the East to the West and then form the North West during the night. Great time had by all. Stephen p.s. Will post soem pics when I get back home next week

As Stephen said great time had by all!!!!! Wasn't "that windy"..... Only got blown over 3 times and had to avoid the normal path above Northern Corries by 20m or so, it's only 4/500m of a drop off the path. I couldn't take pics, (my camara went 'pecs' up), But I did get to the top of Irelands highest inland mtn. and saw the crosses, plaques, on the top. When able to see through cloud, rain and hail!!!!! Great weekend, Paul.
