In the review the Magic 2.0 are in the non-waterproof section, but my pair are actually waterproof with a Gore-Tex XCR liner.

Typo or old model?

They seem to be available with/without the XCR lining Darren.

I found the shoe review quite strange in places. I've got used to Chris plugging the lightest/most flexible options now, which is fine if you like that sort of thing and are good at placing your feet carefully on rough terrain.

However, he describes the Brasher the Brasher Rapids as low in price at £80, but the Scarpa Heliums as slightly high in price at £80.

My experience of Brasher footwear is that it is 1. extremely comfortable 2. light weight 3. very quick to wear out 4. not even close to matching Scarpa's build quality. I know this sort of thing is all a bit subjective and I'd be interested to hear what other people think, but I think CT might be going out on a bit of a limb!

(good article on the "soft shell" myth though in the same issue)

Marcus is right about the Magic 2.0. There is a version with an XCR lining.

I wondered who would spot the (non-) deliberate mistake! The Brasher shoes are actually £60. Sorry for the error. I'm not sure how it happened.

Brasher footwear doesn't usually last as long as Scarpa's, mostly, in my view, because it is lighter though there's no denying that Scarpa as good quality as you can get. I really don't like that wide heel on the Helium though.

How long the Brasher shoes will last I don't know. I used them on the TGO Challenge and I'm just back from two days in Strathcarron where I wore them on An Ruadh-stac and Maol Chean-dearg.

Glad you liked the soft shell piece.

Aha! Yes now I can see the price ofthe Brashers is right in the table, but not in the text. I'd be interested to see how you do with the Rapids. The soles on the Supalites I used last year gave out after only about 200 miles, at which point they were about as stiff as a pair of bathroom sponges! I did abuse them a bit wearing them on easy scrambles though.

Yes I thought you were spot-on with soft-shell. "Comfy when wet" is my definition. Have been wearing a pair of Montane soft-tech pants in the wet this year which fit the bill exactly.

The Rapids have Vibram soles, which should last okay. I've already done over 200 miles in them. I wore Supalites for 600 miles of the Arizona Trail - which is on very rocky, stony terrain - and there was still some tread left at the end. The EVA midsole was collapsing though. It may be that the midsole will give way before the tread is worn out on the Rapids too. Brasher used to reckon that the life of an EVA midsole was about 500 miles.
