I've got books by HP Lovecraft and RH Howard full of racist outbursts, there were written in the 20/30's and that was the norm back then. However I don't go around parading quotes about "repugnant negroid types" and arguing, against every conceivable sense of decency, that being upset by that shows you off as some PC gone mad type...

I've think you've been a tad naive if you thought the issue would'nt be raised sooner or later. The subject of Golliwogs is often in the news and so is a very `live' issue for some people.

Winterval was a festival designed by Birmingham city council to cover most of December, it was just a commercial, all-inclusive promotion and was never, ever meant to replace Christmas, the council has all the usual Christams out in the streets....  Obviously, countless morons since then have been repeating ad nauseam that it was some kind of anti-christmas ploy...See image below.
