Hi all, can anyone reccomend a good campsite round the cadir iris area, pref with a pub nr by thanks

There is the Cwmrhwyddfor Farm camp site near Tal y Llyn, off the A487. Don't go to the pub nearest the site, which is awful. There are a couple of OK pubs at the end of Tal y Lyn a couple of miles away.
In the past I have always found this site to be fine. However, last time we went, about 18 months ago we were kept awake until about 2:00am by a large family group of Scally Scousers.
There are several sites round Dolgellau, which I have bookmarked, but not stayed at yet:

Alright matey Getting soft in your old age? Bothy knocking around near Cadir and a hut on the summit, there you go accommodation sorted

My advice to you would be to ring the Gwernan hotel and ask them if they could recommend a campsite near by. http://www.gwernan.co.uk/. this is a great pub, right on the foot of Cadair Idris from the Ty Nant side. The YHA - Kings is also an option, you can camp on their grounds, and is just a short drive from the lovely George III Hotel in Penmaenpool. there are plenty of campsites about, depends what you want really. I live in Dolgellau so give us a shout if you need more help

There used to be campsite just down the road from the Gwernan, on the left, right at the bottom of the Pony Path. We had an OM meet there a few years ago and the owner wouldn't take any payment because there were no showers and no hot water cos the squirrels had eaten the cabling!

There's one behind the Little Chef on the A470 (?) callerd Dolgun Uchaf or similar. I've not used a tent there, but the bunkhouses are good enough. Kitchen/showers,secure bike store OK too. *edit* Geek on a Stick has the link in his post - Torrent Campsite! Like all sites, it can get a noisy crowd in without warning. I've not noticed it rowdy though. Near river so gets a good frost in winter! Pubs are all in Dogjelly - plenty of choice too. Enjoy Cadair Idris. There is a fair sized car park there but don't leave it too late in the day. Very under-rated for an afternoon's bimble. The Didster up there^ has a point - I'd be bivvying this weekend. Is that hut at the summit useable?

Yes, though a little dark and damp. You do know the local belief, don't you, that if you spend the night up there you'll come down the next morning either mad or a bard (poet)?

Any port in a storm and all that but that summit shelter was a bit grim when I was there in April.

Not sure exactly. But the Cool Camping book will have plenty of examples. They'll even recommend some pubs nearby! They're even on line nowadays. Have fun! Mountain Marathons
