I've just had some what i thought was good fortune, turn into bad fortune.I basically found an old pair of my boots in the loft whilst moving house, and they've been hiding up there for years. So i just went for a walk in them, despite owning several pairs of others, and there was a problem with them. The foamy bit what is all around the sides just above the sole for about an inch high must have gone rock hard and had no flex in it because as i was walking it was actually cracking and peeling of.Can anyone tell me if i took these to a shoe repair shop would they be able to fix them?
Probably not. They could replace the outsole, but that wouldn't do much good, siince ot sounds like it's the EVA cushioning that's perished, as it does after a few years. A specialist repair firm might be able to replace it, like Lancashire Shoe Repairs, but I'm not too sure about that. And even if they could it would cost a good bit -- prehaps more than the boots are worth.
if the uppers are in goodnick - and they need to be in good nick, then its worth it. If the uppers arent near perfect, then you need to do the sums.
I had a pair refurbed and have lasted me 10 years - they are now goosed as the uppers have cracked - but then I did do a scottish season in them which is notorious for killing uppers
