No more MCofS discount?

Just had my annual renewal letter for my TGO magazine subscription.

It doesn't seem like they are offering a discount for MCofS members anymore. I'm sure the price last year was £25 but this year they are quoting the full renewal price o £44.95 or £34.95 if you pay by direct debit.

Has anyone else had this problem? I've tried phoning them but the office is closed over the weekend.

You will have to try and catch them in the office to get the discount. Look on page 4 "Contributors" bottom right there is a section "Subscriptions and Back Issues" which states: Members of YHA, SYHA, LDWA, RA, BMC, SRoWS, MCofS & The Backpackers' Club: £28

You are wrong; I renewed my sub a few weeks ago for £28 by telephone with no problems although they wouldn't give me three discounts for belonging to three of the listed organizations!

It is slightly annoying that the renewal letter doesn't acknowledge that the subscription that needs renewing is a discounted one and therefore inviting renewal on the same terms. I bet they catch a few people that way.

Can anyone tell me whether I can still get the free gifts if I pay the BMC members price? I'm guessing not but you never know.

Be reasonable: gifts were never on offer to readers taking up the discount offer. The January issue had on offer that was specifically for new subscribers only. You used to be able to renew at full price and claim the current offer.

That's what I thought. It just means that I have to decide whether the gifts are worth the £12 price difference to me (I've not subscribed before). It's only the bothy bag that I'm really interested in as I was thinking about getting one anyway.

Do as I did then: take the gifts for year one and then renew in subsequent years at the discount rate.
