Hi Neil,

I Can't help directly but it might be worth having a trawl throught the equipment forum on UKCampsite.

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/chatter/

They have a search facility as well.

Hope this helps,

Jason

Have a visit to your local DIY store you can knock one up for a couple of quid all you need is:
a 60W Bulkhead light (the sort of light you bolt to the side of your house)

http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro.jsp?id=13062&ts=63415

a length of 2 0r 3 core mains wire 2-3 core is dependent on the fitting if its double insulated you need 2 core)
1.5 mm2 is ample 1mm2 would do but it isnt as robust,
a 60 watt light bulb (try and get a rough service bulb as these last longer)
a 13 amp mains plug

hanging the light is dependent on your tent if its a big frame tent with nice big poles get some Pipe clips (the ones that you screw throught the center and push the pipe into after youve fixed it inplace use a couple on nuts and bolts to hold them to the fitting and clip it to the fame

http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro.jsp?ts=63542&id=15460

All you need to do then is wire plug with your length of wire to the bulkhead
if you want to make it a bit more sophisticated get an inline switch so you can turn it on and off without having to unplug it
(if in doubt ask an Spark)

this should cirtainly cost you less than a tenner i have seen the same set up in Barrons nr Malton for £20!!

You could get a small fluo light fitting like this

http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro.jsp?ts=63792&id=17280

as well ad been totaly waterproof the defuser will protect the tube obviously if you only have a small tent you will look like Blackpool

if you want to go for the baught ready to use approach look for an inspection lamp

Err, Andy - you're giving examples of 13A / 240V appliances but a camp hook-up is 12V!

Try a specialist camping shop or a chandlery if one is nearer - boats also use 12V.

Just a word on safety.

Do not rely on the site electrical devices (R.C.D.) to trip for a fault.
If you are using any device from a hook up, fit an R.C.D. (residual current device) and an M.C.B. (minature circuit breaker) on your own supply side.
Use a 3 core proper cable and connections.

Although Andy gives some good advice. I would tend to use only waterproof fittings, for obvious reasons. e.g. fitting that are designed for outdoor use.

If you are not sure and want further info, just post.
