I'm mildly competent with navigation in most weathers in the lakes & peaks, and have done quite a lot of walking there and in the cairngorms, but winter scares me...
Which winter skills course would best set me up to be more confident in the snow and ice in the UK and potentially the Alps as our neighbours just bought a flat in the alps and we've started negotiating 'mates rates' for out of season
I'm a bit of a coward so would be for the equivalent of hill walking and grade 1 / 2 scrambling, not ice climbing.
I've done Iain's 2 day winter skills course, and his 2 day winter nav and snowholing course, and next year he's going to introduce me to winter climbing. No hesitations in recommending him, great guy, great instructor and great rates.
I would recommend Glenmore lodge or Plas Brenin if plenty of snow. Either way both good value for money, most food included and all equipment hire, i have used both and would willingly return to either.
