The controversial sale of Derwentwater YHA is now complete (YHA, your strategy is a mystery to me ). A few details here of the background to this.
The good news is that it is now operational as an independent hostel - a few of us stayed there last weekend & it remains lovely!
They're still sorting out the sales & marketing as the YHA won't be continuing to make bookings for them as an affiliate hostel so if you'd like to stay there it's best to contact them direct - details on their new website
You wouldn't happen to know about the pricing... they show £18ish and £20ish per night is that min/max pricing?
Also while I'm at it anyone know if the "breakfast buffet" is one trip or can you go up multiple times? The YHA in Keswick was "eat as much as you want" or so I was told. Cheers
The brekky seemed to be a one-shot trip. Though I lack charm, so you may do better
Last time I was up that way I was a touch suprised that a B&B was the cheaper of the two options. Given the choice of having to deal with other peoples snoring, smelly feet and general disgusting and anti-social behaviour especially when it comes to the younger generation communal dorm living is not something I'd relish hence my preference would be for the cheaper B&B option.
It's sad as the basic ideals behind hosteling are worthy ones. Unfortunatly we live in an age of 'Entitlement'... having paid for the night there are people that think its there right to come back at 2am switch on the lights, mess around and spend the next hour talking as loudly as they can throwing their dirty clothes around the place etc.Sod anyone else.
Glad to see that breakfast is a chargable extra as I tend to only eat porridge with maybe some toast and coffee. Was just interested in what £5 gets you foodwise these days.
I really hope they can make a go of it as I think there is a market out there for reasonably priced accomodation.
