The twenty person bag must be interesting. I think you'd have to be careful how you took it out of its bag, or else you might end up flying down the mountain... Maybe it's a long sausage, and you all climb in at one end, and sit in a long line...
I decided on a bothy bag after advice on OM. After checking out the options I went with a JDS 2 bag. Cheaper than competitors but I'm pleased with the quality of the product. Yet to use it 'in anger' but had lunch in it with my - somewhat large - regular walking partner. Works well, and tho' I wouldn't plan to spend a night in it, I'm comfortable that I (we) could in an emergency.......And takes up no room in the pack!
Update - my JDS 4 man bothy finally arrived whilst I was up in Scotland, so we took it out today in the snow and clag on Pen y Fan to give it a test run. Ok, it took an awful long time to arrive, seems they make them to order, but...
it was well worth the wait! It's not that much bigger than my TN ultralight 2 man bothy, it's not that heavy, it's a frighteningly bright yellow colour that'll be dead easy to spot, and did what bothies are supposed to do really well. There were 2 of us in there - which wasn't enough to test properly the size of it, we need to get out with 3 or 4 to ensure the material's properly stretched. It has a window - useful for keeping an eye on the weather or feeling smug when watching others standing around exposed to the elements - but stiffer than the rest of the material and not as easy as the rest to re-stuff at the end.
But all in all, I'm really pleased with this purchase - light, cheap and on first use, a cracking piece of gear
I have a 2P version. Very well made, but most importantly, very simple design. I couldn't believe how effective it could be until used in harsh weather. Buy one.
Whats the packed size like on the 2P Mark (or anyone else)? I have a vango one at the moment and although not too big or heavy, this one is c100g lighter, so if its smaller too I might just purchase.
Ordered on 24th Nov, so not a great delivery service. otoh, I did phone them before Christmas to ask where it was, and did say that it wasn't urgent. I suspect my order just got forgotten about for a while. Given that it wasn't urgent and the price was so good I wasn't that bothered (and trying out the finished item, I'll forgive them because it is a fantastically good buy), but if you do need it for a particular trip I'd recommend contacting them in advance and asking about delivery times.
I also ordered one (4 man but colour red) 27 November. They emailed me to say they were out of stock and would send it ASAP. It arrived within 2 weeks. I would say their service was fine. I've not used it yet and cannot compare it with other bothy bags.
MK, How big is it? Anymore photos or perhaps I can sneak a peek next time I am in Brecon. I ask as I was looking for a 2 man one but tried the Terra Nova 2 in a shop and was sceptical about getting 2 people with layers and kit in there.
