Looking at their website, they use an inflatable core vest or gilet in this 'airdown' system which you can buy on its own or as part of a jacket.
I'd be more interested in just the inflatable gilet because you could wear it as part of a layering system.
The Sphere jacket (shown in the article) has a sewn in gilet which forms part of the lining.
There is a more 'outdoorsy' jacket - 'Tactical 3 in 1 extreme protection jacket which is the gilet plus a shell.

so, it's a breathable jacket with an inflatable vapor barrier liner?
hmm, interesting.

here's the problem I have with it:

"Further superior weather beating performance is provided by the waterproof HydraDri outer (8,000mm)"

yes, and the airproof/waterproof inner!

"which also offers breathability (5,000g) to keep you warm but not clammy."

unfortunately there's an airtight liner, so you won't be clammy, but soaking wet.

"think of how effective and lightweight Therm-a-Rest® sleeping mats are"

they are also full of foam to create dead air space and thus insulation, remember how cold you were last time you slept on one of those old inflatable airbeds. you need really small air spaces in order not to have convection currents which are one of the causes for heat loss.

"it’d be an ideal solution for activities with mixed activity levels."

even if you deflate it, you're still wearing a vapor barrier jacket, ever tried jogging in one of those?

"The highly innovative AirDown® inflatable inner, when inflated, is as warm as a 12oz down jacket and will provide torso protection against temperatures down to -20˚C."

and how warm is it when deflated?

Still, you could inflate it with helium, and keep all the ultralight folk happy.

I prefer using Argon. Much warmer.

Its hard to tell, but I'm assuming that the inflatable insulation section is basically a convoluted tube. eth fabric holding the tube into a jacket shape could well be quite breathable.

Even if it were open though, there's a pretty good chance you'll still get sweaty underneath each tube.

Crazy.

I'll hold out for aerogel insulated jackets, thanks.

I don't know whit's more alarming - that such a thing exists, or that you actually knew about it.
