I didn't know that, Wanderlust. I'm not from Stoke, but lived in a few of the delightful bits for many a year (Dresden, Longton, Fenton, Stoke and then poshed up and moved to Biddle Moo-wer)
Hi Millysawitch, I'm from the (not so) delightful suburb of Blurton. You are now living in Biddulph Moor? It is nice up there - I drive that way in the evening in my Royal Mail van, I do like the views over to Mow Cop and beyond.

I live in Buxton now (on the odd occasions that I'm home). Blurton has a closer connection to Bob the Builder, I believe?
Last spring I made a hike along the E2 in the U.K with our little kids. We started in Harwich and ended some miles for Cambridge. We passed some towns wit Stoke in the place names. Perhaps OP lives there, that's the reason for my question.
There's about a million places called Stoke Something-or-other round here. Although funnily enough I actually grew up near Derby which is not a million miles from the "proper" Stoke - this whole thread's making me feel right at home
