Just wandered over there as I've not been on for a few years.  On the index it's not showing any new posts since October.  Is it as quiet as that over there or is it a tech issue (I notice it has a error showing at the bottom of the page : Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 50331648 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 5505069 bytes) in Unknown on line 0)

I can see OM is a lot quieter than it used to be but an surprised that the TGO forum would be as quiet as it looks to be.

TGO's forum has always seen less action than a Nuns crotch. OM was buzzing before people disappeared up their own blogasphere.

I guess people can't afford to get out as much as they used to and are more focussed on other things.

Thanks - not really after a challenge forum rather than a general UK outdoor forum.  I've toyed with the idea of the challenge over the years but think I'd rather just do my own thing.

The hills don't change much so I mostly dip into the forums (& mags) to get up to speed with the new gear when I need something as I hate shopping & am not even fond of trudging around gear shops like I used to.  If I can narrow my choices down from forum feedback it saves me that hassle.  10-30 years ago I knew about all the gear & was a bit of a gear whore but now don't have the inclination to keep up to date or 'upgrade'.  A GPS with loaded OS maps is the current thing on my query list.   I've not been as active as I used to be over the last 2-3 years but now the new season is upon us I'll be getting out more & GPS will be a good backup to my past pretty good navigation with me being a bit rusty & the PIA of now needing reading glasses.

Part of the problem is that TO aren't interested in fixing any of the technical problems in the forums. From memory:

* Different logins for main and forum sites.
* Top banner takes up almost half the page on anything other than a big monitor.
* Message notification emails are completely broken.
* No RSS feeds for the forums.

I contacted Emily a few weeks ago about this very issue. No action yet. It's turning into tumbleweed city there...

Interesting stuff.  I've always preferred the community of forums to blogs (no disrespect to any bloggers).  I have several 'hobbies'  but never do more than dip into a relevent blog if a google search takes me there & never found any that hold my interest - on any subject.  Same with podcasts on subjects that should be of interest.  Its probably just me!  Bizarrely I can listen to stuff on the radio all day on subjects I know nowt about & be totally gripped!
