Hi All On 19th November through a buy it now option I made my first ever purchase on ebay. I purchased a second hand Vango Spirit 200 plus. It was described as bought from new a few years ago but always dried properly before storing, and only used a small number of times and in execptional condition. I paid £50 plus £15 postage. My payment via paypal went through imediatley. I never heard anything from the seller and after 26 days of waiting and after sending him several emails he has not once got back to me. I have now opended up a case with the resolution centre, I just wondered whats the chance of getting my money back. Any advice would be much appreciated. thanks Sam.

So long as you follow the eBay/PayPal procedures to the letter, and within their stated timeframes, then you'll get a refund. The main thing is... read their terms very carefully and comply with them at every step, and on time. If you run over one of their stated time limits, then they'll simply close the case and won't re-open it. Most of the system is automatic and doesn't involve human beings until the very end.

what Paddy said. I've persued the same kind of thing through the system and got my money back. hope it goes well for you.

You should get your money back no problem Sam
Ebay will contact the seller and put the heavies on him, the times I've had the same problem their intervention has always been successful.

I can only echo the above comments. I had a similar experience and Paypal were superb. You should also leave eBay feedback for this seller - a bad reputation soon gets people who are less than fair dealers off the lists for potential buyers who could end up with the same problem. Hope you get if back soon.

.JPG) you should be fine Sam - a friend got sorted by ebay/paypal just the other day - they take it seriously. Good luck You waited rather a long time though? - I'd have given it a week - 10 days at most with no comms.

.jpg) More info, if you need it, if you post on the the eBay 'Buyer Central' discussion board. One or two idiots around there but far outnumbered by sensible advice from helpful people,

and if tent does arrive claim it never did and still get your money back, teach the lazy bastard a lesson not too mess people around... ...merry xmas... you will be fine with paypal as others say...

Thats great to know. thanks everyone. I'll let you know how it goes. If I've not heard from him by 18th dec then I've got to contact the ebay people again it so email says from ebay resolution. Being a first purchase I wasn't sure if its common practice for a seller to drop me a line to say thanks for the purchase, item on its way blah blah. And me being patient thought i would give it several extra days before chasing it. Although I could have walked from London to Cheshire to pick it up in the time its taken so far. I am going to add negative feedback on his account but I dont know whats stopping people like him to open new accounts with different names.

What's his feedback like? Could be something simple like the seller popping his clogs - it happens.

Some sellers acknowledge you and keep you up to date with postage details, they can do this by message or by simply noting that the item has been despatched. Some are good at communications and some don't bother. C'est la vie. You'd be fitter if you'd walked to pick it up You're right, there is nothing to stop this person starting again with a new account if they got negative feedback but then they won't build up a good reputation and people may be wary. As Rosswm says, check the feedback to date - it is possible they have popped it or gone to hospital with a broken leg. Doesn't help you get your tent though

Well he only had about 8 pieces of feedback totaling 90% which led me to believe he was not a prolific seller. one person said postage was slow. Another said very helpfull when item arrived damaged. Most of the feedback was ok. He did mentioned the tent served him well on his DOE when I enquired before buying to so I presume he is young. I must admit I did wonder if something horrible had happend to him. Between receiving my money and getting it posted to me. I will have to wait and see what happens.

8 feedback & 90% would make me think twice about dealing with them. You should get your money back & hopefully get what you want from a more focussed seller

Just an update. several days after logging a case with the ebay resultion centre, I then received a short message from the seller appologising for the delay which he said was caused by major IT issues at his end. He says the tent shall be with me next week weds or thurs. Not a brilliant excuss as I'm sure he could have used a friends or work computer to drop me a line. Anyway I'm just hoping it arrives in the exeptional condition that was described. Good job I was not needing it before Xmas. Thanks Sam

Have you done a 'contact details' search? Do this thru' the Advanced search option and have the item number handy. This may give you telephone number you can use.
On one occasion when I was having trouble, with an item being sold by a student, it gave me their home number and their parents!! - a good lever to use to get a otherwise 'reluctant communicator' to reply to my emails!!
Cathy.

Good luck! If the seller is owt like my retired parents a major IT incident could be flat batteries in the mouse with no recourse to any other PC until I've fixed it for them! You never know the sort of people you're dealing for one off purchases.
