I 'd love to buy an ultra lightweight tent but being 6'3" tall I find tents like the Hilleberg Akto and Terra Nova Laserlite just a bit too short when lying down. My head and feet are pushing against the ends, which is obviously not a good thing. Anyone have any suggestions for alternative lightweight tents which offer a bit more length ( I realise that there may have to be a compromise when it comes to weight). Oh and I need a long sleeping bag too; fed up of having a cold head!

I have a Lazerlite and a Lazer (1-2 person) the Lazer is good and long and great for you!!! ....... Lilo

I can highly recommend the Vaude Power Lizard It only weighs a smidge over a kilo but my 6'6" frame fits in with a bit of room to spare
I also use a couple of versions of Golite's (long) range of sleeping bags which have been excellent

200 cm is 6ft 5, most tents are at least 210cm long. I have a vaude taurus Ultralight, its 230cm long and at 1.7kg it's luxury for 1. But I would have a look at Tarptents, sixe for weight ratio is bonkers

Long sleeping bags from various people. PHD say, but also most of the other decent brands except, for some reason, RAB. Quite a few are <210cm, especially once losses from walls coming down are counted for. And the limitation is the length of a long sleeping bag not the person. With winter thickness and being designed for up to ~200cm internally they can end up rather long For tents here's one with really a lot of headroom/length. Much more than usual. (details). Hilleberg Unna possible too - its certainly utterly massive inside - although a little heavy maybe. The Vaude one might well do it OK - I'd want to check it with a long sleeping bag, and don't think I'd be able to sit up but might be acceptable trade off - can't see the 206cm in a laser really being enough. Tarp tents might well be just about OK too, although as I remember fractionally marginal for length. Some discussions about that elsewhere if you search

Met a German guy in Patagonia who is exactly 2m tall. Has a Hilly Kaitum 2, as it has vertical ends, both. Delighted with it and will not buy any other make now.

.JPG) tarptent scarp 1 - I'm 6' and have about 6" spare floor at each end - vertical end walls taller than an akto -good in the wind and just wide enough for 2 v. close friends at 1.4kg

The Laser and the Unna are exactly the same length (230cm), and the same width, give or take a couple of inches. The Unna has larger floor area (being rectangular rather than oblong), but as Pete V said the Laser is good and long. Of course the Laser is now called the Laser Competition 2, but we've already had that confusion once today. The Laserlite/Laser Competition is now the Laser Competition 1 and is significantly shorter (and lower at the ends).

And less tall The laser specs I found online were very different actually, but the LComp2 does seem pretty plausible - walls not sloping that badly either etc. Worth checking of course, which should be very possible with TN tents.

Now that really is both (much more than!) big enough and impressively light. Can't help thinking it needs some more guy lines round the top though. There are drawbacks to giving people this much head room It might suvive fine of course. (The Ringstind scares me slightly that way too, but it does at least have an awful lot of guy lines and a looped pole to help a bit.).

Internal height is just as important as length, especially at this time of year when you could be in there for 10hrs plus. Length-wise, I've just accepted that there'll be times when I'm going to come into contact with the inner and plan accordingly. eg pack a sleeping bag cover. (The Terra Nova Moonlite works well) Also, thinking laterally, my current 3 season "solo" tent is a Big Agnes Seedhouse SL2. Acres of space for the weight of an Akto and I can lie diagonally across it so length isn't an issue. HTH

And less tall True and the end poles are a faff to pack. The laser specs I found online were very different actually, I think you may have got hold of the Voyager specs. That is 206cm long, the Laser/Laser Competition 2 has been through many design changes but its dimensions have always been the same. But talk of the Voyager and SL2 leads me to suggest the tent I currently use, the TN Solar Competion 2. compared to the SL2, its a similar price (at F&T), very similar area (bit narrower at the foot), has mesh only to the door rather than the whole inner and is 350gm lighter at 1.15kGg. And the whole 225cm length is highly usable as this cross setion shows.

The Lightheart SoLong? Its impressively high I give you, but isn't it cheating a bit by being single skin at the ends? Surely most single person tents would be 100" (250cm long), if pitched fly only.

 'Cheating?'

Head room should be pretty reasonable in that solar 2 too. Odd the way they seem to give their two person tents notably more headroom than their 1 person ones.

Many thanks for all the helpful responses. Think I may be investing in a Vaude Power Lizard...
