The jacket is a Mountain Equipment Polarloft Jacket (khaki green). I bought it from a discontinued line at a bargain £30 for every day use about 3 years ago. The nylon shell is quite tough and i'm not sure what thickness the Polarloft is - its easily equivalent to 100gm Primaloft possibly a bit more. I do like the Polarloft - its a bit more 'lofty' than PL which gives it that pyschological warmth but still packs down into a quite small stuff sack. I have used it as an insulation layer around April time on overnighters - it weighs 550grams; it is a warm jacket.
The hood is a Buffalo DP Fleece hood which i found online for £14. Its a different shade of green to the jacket but not obviously so that it looks out of place. They weigh about 60grams.
I've hand stitched (well someone else did ) a length of velcro on the underside of the jacket collar so the hood can now be attached - the velcro is not noticeable when the collars turned over.
I've been really suprised at the difference this has made to the jacket, the hood is really warm and gives the jacket much more of a full coverage for winter use.
As the DP Hoods come in a number of different colours (black in particular), this may (or may not) give some others a bit of versatility on their winter kit.
