I'm still on the lookout for a set of lightweight trekking poles.

Split between multi days (6) in the hills with 22kg and the need to protect my knees on the descents during the Lakeland 50 (carrying next to nothing).

Any recommendations?

Thanks

I ersonally like BD Flicklocks.  Well built with a good locking mech that's accessible if it does need faffing about with.  I prefer the ski poles as having less fiddle and clutter and baskets that will support you on boggy ground much better.

Pete.

Fizan Ultralights at 158g per pole.

Sturdy enough for my 15stone frame and 15kg pack on cumbria way last year so they are up to the job, but weigh nothing when you put them on your pack for a bit.

Picked mine up in a Kathmandu in Brighton which had them mislabelled at the same price as bottom end Leki's that were in the same bin, so got them for £35 or so for the pair I think?

I like Mountainking poles as UK company but reckon if I was to replace my poles I'd get the Fizan Compacts I think they are called. These are quite light indeed like the Fizan Ultralights mentioned above.

The BD flicklocks are good but are on heavy poles. I had a pair but dented the mid section and they ceased being adjustable because of the dent. Up till then I liked them although heavy as I don't use poles as much and they end up being carried most of the time.

I do think the BD ultralight poles are good. These are in two pole sizes IIRC with only one BD flicklock. The rest of the pole folds like a tent pole with some fancy rubber connections. These are lightest and I believe most compact poles BD do and still have the adjustability needed to adjust the pole length for uphill and downhill sections.

I've got and have extensively used BD's, Leki Ti's, Fizan compact.

I mainly use the Fizan with light loads for multi-day trips. Prefer the more zingy Leki's for heavier weights in the same circumstance though.

I like the BD mechanism but the poles are stiff and not so great for my style of walking.

I'm still waiting for someone to mate Pacerpoles with BD flicklocks...

yes Kate a good offspring of those two would be good. Especially if you could lighten up the pacer poles  in case of carrying not using. Plus make them moree compact for packing.

Kate, the usual method of attaching grips to poles is with a thermo-setting glue.  Check with the PP people that's what they do, and if so to remove the grip place it in boiling water for a minute or so and then pull.  Now apply your super-trendy PP grip to another pole of your choice (also check diameters before you start), using another thermo-setting glue (i.e., from a DIY glue gun) and Robert's Your Parent's Male Sibling.

Pete.
