Great deals on Craghopper fleeces everywhere. Anyone wear them? Are they any good? How do they compare with eg Berghaus? thanks, David

THey're good quality fleeces at good value. You don't really notice anything different if you get a north face or berghaus one (assuming you're buying a standard 100wt fleece)

Until you get to fancy stuff (Windpro, Thermal Pro etc) fleeces are for the most part much of a muchness.  Aside from that a Craghoppers logo is paying for less advertising etc. than a Berghaus one, so it'll probably be cheaper!

Pete.

IME not all fleeces are the same. Even if you're just comparing (say) 100wt ones.

The difference in cut/fit is the main one. I find that a ME or Berghaus' cut suits me much more than Mountain Hardwear for example.

That's not to say that a "big brand" fleece will necesarily be better than a more budget one. But worth trying on to see which fits best. I've found that the cheaper ones tend to have a "boxier" fit than the more "tailored" athletic cuts that often cost more.

I also find that some attention to detail on hems, cuffs, zips is worth paying a bit more for. But that's just my tastes.

Quite so, when I said "fleece" I meant fleece material is much of a muchness rather than fleece article.  As you say, how it's cut will make it potentially quite different.

Pete.

Anecdotally I tried on some craghoppers fleeces in Cotswolds but I didnt like the fit, it was baggy in the wrong areas. The standard Berghaus fleeces were far better in terms of fit in my opinion. I'm not saying that that applied to all craghoppers fleeces though

As a look aroud a crowd will tell you, different people are baggy in different places, so it's good if there are some different shape options in clothes.

I've got three Crag hoppers micrfleece tops that vary in age from 4 years to new.  They wear really well and I use them a lot of them time.  I think they are great value but the cut and fit really suits me so I would get them out of choice if they were more expensive.

What Craig said - use them daily for work and newer ones get to go outdoors. They seem to last well. Cut and fit suits me. Usually buy some wherever I can find them knocked down, just a tight git really

Judging from the local TK Maxx you'd have some shopping to do if you called in at a branch.  They usually have a good selection of basic fleece jackets and pullovers.

The CH 100-weight fleeces I've seen in TKM seem to be in quite a nice fleece material* (the Corey and Miska microfleeces).  They're the wrong shape for me, so I've never used one.  As Pete says, people come in different shapes and sizes, so it's good that clothes do too...

In general, Craghoppers aren't very 'technically' cut, so, if you need features like good arm raise, it's best to check fit first.

* there's fleece, and there's fleece, even in the cheaper versions.  Some is harsh and feels oily, and dense, so won't breathe as well (on the other hand, it will be more wind resistant).  Pick one to suit your needs...

The craghoppers stuff is very loose cut as mentioned but there bear grylls line is a more fitted shape, completely different but short on the arms.

If you have a Debenhams near where you live check out the Sports Department as quite a few of the stores have a Craghoppers Shop in store.  Rather like the Craghoppers website and the Debenhams website most stock is at least 50% off the RRP with some items 70% off.
