just wondered what people thought of them

I've got the CDT and just last week the Ohm, brilliant packs and worth every penny IMHO
If you're anywhere near Leeds sometime your welcome to have a look

Im thinking about the ULA Circuit
|
 |
I used to rave about ULA packs when they were still made in the garage. I'm an MLD man now.

 |
I had a Conduit - great pack but a bit too short and fat for me (also short and fat) in the end - and no load-lifters. I also have an Ohm - perhaps my favourite all-round pack. But too big for me really (capacity-wise). It'll go soon which will be a pity, yet a necessary one. Used (and still have) a Catalyst that I bought for the John Muir Trail on CT's recommendation - fantastic pack for that sort of trip; I ended up carrying two bear canisters in it with about 30kgs for a 12-day stretch...and it didn't hurt (much ).

I have the Circuit excellent bag lots of cinching points to adjust the load. On multi week trips I carry around 18lb with food and water but one time I had to carry 7 days food and a bear barrel weighing around 38lb thankfully I gradually reduced the weight as I ate the food. I could probably get by most of the time with the Ohm which is a good bag.The present Circuit is a few ounces more than mine but I think has a few refinements.

I like the look of these, plus the fact that they come in different back lengths and different size waist belts, something other rucksack makers should take note from

I have had the original Circuit and now have a recent one, only differing in the side pockets (mine are mesh the new version is fabric)Very comfortable up to 12kg , still pretty good at 15-17kg. However if over about 12kg I prefer to use the Aarn packs (the ones with the chest pockets)The weight of the new version includes several bits that used to be extras : Hydration Sleeve (~1.4 oz)Internal Mesh Pocket (~1.1 oz)Water Bottle Holsters (~0.8 oz)Handloops (~0.8 oz) Single Aluminum Stay (~2.0 oz)They are still made in Logan, USA just not in Brian's garage (he lives in a van these days ) http://brianfrankle.wordpress.com/about/the-man-van/The new version also holds about 5 extra liters due to the new roll top closure.BTW the extra aluminium stay (on top of the previously existing hoop frame) should help with the heavier loads but I have not had it loaded with more than 12-13kg so I cannot vouch for it.Nice pack.Franco

Different sizes/waist belts a very good idea but just imagine how much stock the various folk would have to carry if they did work that way! The basic preference seems to be very much for breadth of stock rather than a few styles with options. Silly, but probably just reflecting our collective buying preferences And of course even as many options as ULA do isn't a guarantee of getting a good fit. Not that I've got round to going to UOG to find out quite yet but my history with rucksacks isn't that encouraging!

I had a Conduit - and now its mine..... its a great fit for me and I dont notice the lack of load lifters but then I have only used it on weekend jaunts where I am carrying 5-7 kg not 15

Plus one on the Catalsyt. Bought it second on here last year to replace an OMM Mountain Mover and it is a cracking pack, its a dream with about 10kg in and handles well with much heavier loads if packed properly. One thing to note the material is not as tough as other packs such as Omm's and Ospreys. I did put two small holes in it last winter in Scotland but patched it up with some McNett tape.

I'm surprised at that, Stephen. I've got an older Conduit that has been used and abused something terrible, and it's still mint. It's the same Dyneema used in the Catalyst, i think. I've had a fondle of an Omm sack, and i thought it seemed less durable than my Conduit. And my Relay.

 Hiya Mike,
One of the holes was right on the bottom, I think it was from a shovel, axe or sharp rock or just my, the other one was on the waist belt pocket which has light enough material.

well tough is the conduit in fact if I didnt know better I reckon Ed never used it at all
