Footprints outdoor shop on Woodlands Road, Glasgow, closed its doors for the last time today. Sad to see it go, the guys there were genuine enthusiasts, and a refreshing change from the sanitised corporate big boys.
I knew they were closing, yesterday I was in Glasgow and decided to pop in, turns out they were closing up for good at 4pm. I bought my OMM rucksacks there and my walking poles, along with odds and ends. They were very supportive of our hillwalking club as well.
I think they were the last independent outdoors retailer in Glasgow.
That's sad to hear - I came across them by accident when one of my work colleagues dragged me into the coffee shop next door, and I ended up popping in several times as they had a good range of kit and really helpful and cheery staff.
Thank you for the above comments, I was one of the guys who ran the show. We decided to close as our lease was due to be renewed and with this current climate in retail we didn't want to risk being tied to a lease for the next 5 years and sadly the big boys were discounting so heavily that things were getting squeezed (ouch) !
We had some good times in the shop and will miss the day to day stuff as well as our customers !
You never know , we might pop up again in the future ?? I am moving into the cycle training industry so if ya wanna learn how to ride a bike , Im ya man
Glad to hear you've got something else lined up - you guys had a really helpful, constructive attitude to your customers and it's a shame the current economic climate isn't rewarding that.
