I use a Gelert Blaze Piezo, a lightweight and surprisingly well made stove with a price around £20.

Kovea makes something called the Flame Tornado which at least visually is the same stove as the new MSR MicroRocket. The Flame Tornado even comes with the same separate piezo ignition. Check eBay for availability.

If anyone is interested in the new MSR MicroRocket stove, I've been testing it just to see what it will and will not do.

The above omelet was prepared on an MSR MicroRocket this morning. I've got a full report on my blog: MSR MicroRocket -- Cooking Report. Have a look if you like.

GO had a half price sale on there Hi Gear range so I got the inferno stove for 12.50, an aluminium windshield for 3 quid, 2 aluminium mess tins for 3.50.

So got a decent starter cooking setup for less than 20 quid.

Think I have got a real good bargain considering the inferno stove is an identical (if not the same) copy of the go systems sirocco RRP 35 quid.

ChrissyS, Would the two mess tins be of the old army design ie.
flat and square/. If so boiling water is about the best they will do.
Most other things will burn, porridge is a real no no. Sorry to be
so negative. The real army are much thicker ali. and are fine.
Cheers.

Yeah they are flat and rectangular - the guy in the store said he cooks his food in them all the time and they are fine.

I will test them tomorrow with some tinned bits and let you know of the outcome.

Don't really see how the shape would make much of a difference though as they are as thick as the primus pots and lots of other pots I have seen for portable stoves.

Hi Waldo - also in addition to my previous post;

Everyone else who has brought them has managed to cook fine with them.

My main gripe with the mess tins is that the corners make them a bit of a pain to clean. Otherwise they're not bad, especially if you're just reheating things rather than doing 'real' cooking.

Hi, just cooked porridge in my mess tins this morning no problems. Took about 1 minute or so, but no burning at all and it tasted superb

Only thing is the ignitor on the stove has given up after 1 day haha, so I will have to go back and swap it tomorrow.

hi, if you`re after a efficient yet price concious portable stove, i would go for coleman f1 lite stove, i`ve had one in past and it did exactly what it says in the tin, and these days it can be picked up for £16.50 in here and since your budget is £30 you can always get yourself a windshield for £4.95 in here and a gas canister stabiliser in here for £7.49 making a grand total of £28.94, hope this helps

Glad to hear that Chrissy, generally it's the flame concentration
on the large (relatively) flat surface.Glad you're OK. though.
Cheers.
