I think that the nail on my big toe has managed to make a slight 3cm tear in the bottom inside of my sleeping bag. I noticed this as there was a bit of down in the air as I shook it for a bit of aeration.
I'm not sure what the best way to proceed is. At first I thought that the missus could just put a few stitches in it but the fabric is as light as air and so am a bit worried that that might do even more damage. Experience tells me that the dry cleaners with repair service is as expensive as hell and again not sure if they'd know the best course of action.
If anyone has any experience of the correct way to make a repair please could they post here. Thanks

Thankyou Mole please could you say if this is a long term or short term fix.

.JPG) well, I fixed some lightweight gaiters in May with some spinnaker tape and it isn't peeling yet.... tenacious tape will be a long term fix I rreckon

Yup, tenacious tape will last and last. Much better than sewing. Round off the corners first - it will help reduce the chance of snagging/peeling off.

Mixed success with tenacious tape. Still perfect on a flysheet but on a eVent jacket it's starting to lift. I've fixed a bigger hole on a down sleeping bag with needle & thread that was originally taped in the field. I rolled the edges together & darned them. I trust the repair far more now. If the fabric is on the light side you could roll the edges together & darn another bit of fabric on top. I might be more inclined to leave the tape if it was a synthetic bag.

I've had tenacious tape on a Rab Generator smock, Paclite trews and an inner tent for three years, no problems. And they've been used. If it peels off, sew it. But better to try something that won't create more holes first IMO.

Someone else who puts holes in their gear. Is tenacious the best on the market? This stuff gets good reviews but I haven't tried it: tear aid I was annoyed, given the price, that some of my Tenacious had come away from the backing due to the way it was folded up in it's packing & those parts didn't stick so well.

I casually stuck a bit of tenacious tape on a Prolite 3 hole in (cue unnecessary destination-drop) Alaska in 2002 - it's still there and the mat still works fine....I did stick the lifting edges down with Krazy Glue perhaps 4 years ago.
But others might be better?

All my gear has holes, Rosswm I won't begin to tell you about my awful childhood I think Tenacious is really good. Helps if you can iron it on a low heat - possibly not an option on a down bag. No experience of tear aid. Iron on seal seam tape is really good for most fabrics other than silicone coated too.

Havent had to use it yet but after a wander round Millets at their 40% off sale recently, a box of tear aid is all i came away with. Discount took it under £5.

I reckon in due time all tape comes loose. Tenacious, Tear Aid. best method is just sewing it close. Go to a local sewing shop. Goretex let it be proffesionally repaired (hot laminated patches on both sides)
Tear-Aid and tenacious is for emergency repairs very usuable. Sometimes better tha Mc Gyver tape
