After years of use my rucksack shoulder straps have become smelly . Can it be totally cured or are there only shot term solutions through the use of fabreze or washing in the bath where the smell will come back with vengeance?

Or is it bit the bullet and buy a new rucksack?

 It's a Berghaus Freeflow III 35+8 rucksack if that makes any difference.

Don't fancy unthreading the straps, will try biotex and oxy clean instead.
