Morning All,

This is my first post, so I thought I would say hello.

I think I am having a bit of a mid life crisis, as I want to be out in the great outdoors as much as I can at the moment, much to the Wife's disgust! Now my kids are getting older, I have a bit more free time to do the things I wanted to do when I was younger. My problem is, I have no experience, so high mountain walking with a bit of scrambling is quite frightening.

I am really into hill and mountain walking at the moment, and love Snowdonia. I am very lucky too, as I can be in the national park within about 40 minutes. I also love mountain biking and camping, when the weather is warmer!!

Cheers,

Steve

Sounds perfectly normal to me

My problem is, I have no experience, so high mountain walking with a bit of scrambling is quite frightening.

Or you could look at it another way - you still have the discovery of all those exciting routes ahead of you, lucky chap!

Actually I have the experience but still find exposed ridges and scrambles quite frightening, but that's because I have no head for heights, getting better all the time though.

Welcome to the forum, Steve and maybe you'll find some folk to walk with to improve your confidence, look out for meets if you want to join up with others.

Welcome aboard, Steve. Like you I found (or perhaps rediscovered after a 20 year gap) the 'great outdoors'. Like you I found it a bit daunting - but only to begin with. There's so much exciting stuff to do!

Have a look in the 'Meets and Partners' section - we've a Snowdonia bunkhouse weekend coming up in late Feb if that interests you...

Hi Steve

Snowdonia is great -- almost as good as the Lake District -- but there are also some wonderful quiet hills in the Welsh borders which are well worth a visit. In fact they're almost as interesting as the North Pennine. Pardon the slight regional bias, and have a good time!

Welcome Steve, I am going on a Navigation course based in the Peak District to help allay some of the fears you refer to.

Hi Ron,

I did the same last September at Plas y Brenin. I loved every minute of it, and it boosted my confidence no end.
