Hi I've just been in Scotland for a week severe weather very wet and windy I used haglofs zenith p3 overtrousers and got soaked through not cheap trousers supposed to be waterproof Anyone any recommendations for overtrousers that are actually waterproof Cheers shamus

Rab Bergens have kept me drying on a lot of very wet trips.

Send them back if they leak.
Were you mountaineering? The pockets look very harness friendly.
If you were walking choosing walking trews would likely to lead to rather less disappointment.

I put in the mandatory recommendation for paramo. They might be a bit warm though.

 |
Everything about the trousers is good pockets fit etc just that I would like waterproof trousers to keep water out to some extent

Well, the Zeniths fabric certainly should be at least as waterproof as anything else. If they really did leak then suppose had to either the fabric giving up or conceivably some of the exposed pockets/side zips? (I can't tell how the pockets are lined and what the internal storm flaps on the side zips are like, but they're certainly a potential source of weakness.). Either way you should at least send them back for testing and probably get a refund/ replacement depending on what failed etc.

I am going to try at least to get them replaced or refunded they are only a couple of months old Ive emailed haglofs awaiting reply

I've recently purchased a pair of Paramo Cascada Trousers and they have withstood sustained and occasionally heavy rain for about 5 hours. The temp hung right around 2C or 3C. The wind was negligible. They kept me very dry and impressively comfortable due to the breathability. I've taken to wearning them often just to keep the wind at bay as well.

if you are walking then the front pockets with zips in that postion get double whammy with the rain - the rain hitting the trews and the run-off from the jacket. i would expect those pockets to leak.

I wore a pair of Berghaus deluge over-trousers during those wintry gales up in north wales last week, kept everything out, I even sat on the ground as I forgot my mat. A new pair of decent trousers should never leak.

Berghaus Deluge or Mountain Equipment Karakorums for winter, never failed. But try sorting yours out first. Very surprised though as Haglofs is normally good gear.

 |
About the pockets - yes they'll fill with water quite easily, but (being very sensible and all!) surely they'll have predicted this and lined them with waterproof fabric? Still I guess you can never tell.

And now i have a vision of billy connolly's incontinence pants...

Ive had a pair of Berghaus Goretex Paclite this winter which although the lighter version, have withstood some pretty wet days out and if youre lucky enough for it to brighten up, they pack away nice and small.

Cheers I've contacted haglofs who said the trousers are guaranteed fo three years I've got to return them when they will tast the fabric Watch this space
