Can I ask anyone with one of the above about sizing?  I have a Velez Adventure Light in XL size which fits me perfectly. What size Torres Gillet would I need, mainly for overlaying use.

My understanding is that the Torres thingies are designed to go over whatever Paramo you're already wearing, thus I'm a men's S in Paramo, and got a Torres gilet in S - fits perfectly.

nope. the torres smock and jacket are designed to overlayer. the torres gilet is designed to fit you.

normal gilet - "Sized for everyday wear but choose a larger size for overlayering with the Nikwax Analogy® system. "

despite the fact is also says "It can be used for overlayering over an Páramo waterproof garment" d'oh!

the gilet isn't for overlayering in the same size. depending upon how paramo's sizing fits you it might overlayer nicely, or not. i would recommend trying one on to be sure. the torres smock/jacket definitely overlayer as does the torres core.

Well, that's confusing, isn't it?! I must have caught one bit but not the other. But then, mine does fit nicely

I take a large in most brands. My paramo torres gilet in size large fits me with a quite well - base layer only or microfleece and down vest as well. I find the closures work very well, I only wish it was slightly longer

I have a size "L" and am 38" chest. It fits OK over a fleece, but is a bit baggy if worn over just a shirt. It wouldn't go comfortably over something like my Rab Generator smock.

I prefer my things to be a bit baggy. Also I am tall, so smaller sizes often aren't long enough. Hope that helps.

To add to the confusion:

I am a size large in most brands too (but only 39" chest - broad shoulders)  and found that a Torres Gilet Lightweight (longer than the Torres Gilet) in medium fitted me fine in the body over my Cioch Glamaig (analogy waterproof) - apart from the neck which was too tight.

It was  fine over a shirt or microfleece.

In the shop when I bought it, I found the medium Torres Gilet Lite to be 'larger' all round than the Rab Generator vest in medium.

Sold it on anyway cos it wasn't warm enough for the temps I would wear it in.  Having seen a Torres Gilet since, I reckon that the 'lite' version is thinner - despite Paramo claiming the same weight of insulation....

ok - I'm physically 43" chest but the medium which claims to be 40" fits with enough room to spare for a medium-thickness item under. Gilets are slightly more forgiving of tightness as they aren't pulled by the shoulders as arms move.  Items with sleeves in medium I'm just fitting comfortably. So quoted sizes are the minimum, e.g. if you're above 43" you need to be large, above 46" youre XL, above 49" then XXL.

The tummy area on Paramo is well baggy, I only feel tightness armpit-armpit across the back.

A ha!!  Cheers Nigel, that helps a lot!  Think I'll go for the XL then as thats what I am in Paramo.  And looks like MK was right afterall!!

I got my last Paramo Torres Gilet Light medium off ebay Paramo 2nds, it was perfect.

I usual trick is patience, but sheer luck works too sometimes.

Note also that items like the Torres are so tough that used one is like-new and folks do sell them in OM classifieds.
