HiI have just received a used Primaloft jacket, a Montane Flux, a really great jacket, apart from needing a good wash! There are some stains/marks inside the cuffs and around the inside near the hem, how do you go about washing these garments, are they ok in washing machine with normal washing powder?Any advice welcome! Thanks

i'm probably not the best person for this but...

just thrown in the wash with normal ecover detergent. possibly twice if it still looks a bit grubby. i then nikproof mine (after a nikwash) and tumble dry.

my dubious rationale is that if i'm going to mess about washing it i may as well do it properly and find something else to accompany it.

Copied from Montane site:-

  • Machine wash in warm water at 40C/104F with a mild soap. MONTANE® recommends that you use Nikwax Tech Wash.
  • DO NOT use fabric softeners or bleach.
  • It may be required every 6 months or so to reproof the garment to restore its water repellency. MONTANE® recommends Nikwax TX Direct.
Hope this helps

sorry for noob question, but are reproofing and washing two different things? I mean, if I wash it will the DWR removed or still intact?

Depends on what you wash it with...

But generally, yes; washing is washing, just like your other clothes, using a detergent or soap-based cleaner.  Any DWR may be negated by traces of detergent left over from a detergent wash, but canusually be restored by a good rinse or a soap wash (detergent wash may be needed if the garmentis very dirty, especiallygrease or oils).

Re-proofing may be needed if the DWR has worn off, and usually done after a good wash, since dirt also negates the effect of the DWR.

You can get combined wash & proof products, hence my initial comment...
