Very sensible (and the correct) decision. When you do climb it I hope you have a wonderful day with great views.

To really enjoy it I'd still consider investing (just a bit) of cash in some boots and a decent waterproof and trousers. They will make it a much more enjoyable experience.

Come back and tell us how it goes.

Hi folk, quick update. The organizers have decided to postpone the event till summer due to information shown here and information they gathered themselves.

Appreicate the tips and concerns you folk have shown. Also would like to note that a charity did not organize the event, just some good samaritans that thought it would be a challenge to do it in winter instead of summer. A deadly challenge it would have been! Though I am the type to do a lot of research before I tackle anything new.

Nevertheless, thanks and hope you all have a good day/night.

It would also be a good idea even for the summer trip to get some experience beforehand. It can still be cold, wet and miserable, and if you take the wrong path down, you could end up somewhere you don't want to be. With insufficient equipment and mist you could get quite uncomfortable, if not worse.

Wet rock can also be slippery, so wellies are a really bad idea. Jeans are almost as bad an idea because they are so cold in wet wind... and chafing...

Did I mention about getting some experience in walking in some hills beforehand - just to give you an idea what it's like?

Couple of years ago I got asked to help with a "charity" walk up Snowdon...so I did...dont ask.

This was with a group from London - their idea of preparation was to walk up and down Primrose Hill a few times...they also arrived expecting tarmac paths....

It was a steep learning curve for them...and not one I could recommend to anyone. Read the BMC booklet...itsexcellent (thanks for the heads up Lorraine)

My boss organised a walk up Snowdon last summer. As I was camping nearby I thought it would be a good opportunity to go along and take my young lad up for his first time. There were about 10 people in the group, half of whom experienced, the other half younger and inexperienced with various levels of fitness. The boss, a very fit/active man took the lead and 'led' the group to the top. The second group struggled a fair bit. On the way down, this group was left behind, fatigue setting in, blisters, dehydration, painful knees...I lagged behind to help and encourage the stragglers, the boss seemed too busy to notice people's discomfort. Soon after he was talking about taking a group across Crib Goch...we got a bit concerned about that plan and thankfully it never went ahead.
This trip took part during a glorious windless sunny summer's day but still had plenty of problems due to the 'leader' not being aware of all his group's needs.

A wise decision, David. Enjoy Snowdon in the summer with decent footwear.
