Been badly injured at work: hearing and vision. I also now experience sudden loss of balance and a concomitant, curious interest in headbutting cowpats. Notwithstanding (quite literally), I want to keep going for hill-walks - low-level, non-technical (I think the term is).
Need a walking-stick, not -pole(s). Would prefer one that folds, if poss; and v. v. strongly-built as I tend to be hard on gear. Oh, and preferably 'quiet': an adjustable-length aluminium one clanks on every step - and I can't stand it. (Can't stand, full stop, sometimes. Ha!)
There are two that I've come across in the past couple of days...
First... if you want a non-rattly stick that still allows you some 'hill cred', then the Black Diamond Ultra Distance Z pole does the job... but it's probably going to work out more expensive than almost any other pole on the market. (I got a pair for myself!)
Second... I saw this today in the Westmorland Centre in Kendal... a fold-up 'Senior' walking stick for less than £5!
To clarify, I mean a walking-stick with a handle; and not a pole or staff.
Also, the aluminium one I tried does have a rubber ferrule at the business-end. Made of two tubes of differing diameters, the one is a generous interference-fit in the other hence the clank. I'll look into - literally - introducing a piece of inner-tube, say, to pad it out and dampen the racket.
'Weevil', thanks for your warning about not using a wrist-strp lest I fall and do meself even greater mischief. This weeble wobbles but he does fall down, so is a seasoned chucker-away of his stick as over he goes.
Thank you for the named recommendations, Paddy and Peter. I think both merit a looki, esp. the Leki.
