Hi. I've had a 2AA Maglite torch for a few years and I've been very impressed with it. It's bright (although not as good as Ledlenser) and reliable but I've struggled to find good batteries for it, as cheaper ones don't do it justice.
Any suggestions of good brands for batteries would be very much appreciated. Thanks!
If you use it a lot then good rechargeables would be a sound option, and cheap in the long-run. I've found Uniross Hybrio and Maplin Hybid to be excellent.
Is it short battery life your are complaining about?
It wasn't so much short battery life (although better batteries would probably last longer) but rather just which brands of batteries that people have used or would recommend. I've found that cheaper batteries don't deliver the same power that others do and it's quite a noticable difference.
Durcell always did it for me, but I went to rechargables a long time ago - there is some debate about brands etc. The brand I keep hearing is Eneloop - but I have simply bought cheap but stated high capacity AAs from Hong Kong. They work fine for me (they are rated at 3000 mAh - I havent put a disharge meter on one to check it though). Best upgrade you might think of is the LED insert for Maglites - brother has one and raves about it
I now use enloop rechargeables with a smart techno line bl700 charger so far been very pleased with their performance. Steve d
This. Sanyo eneloops are a little pricey; be very suspicious of anywhere selling them cheap, because they might be fakes!
The magic words to look for when buying rechargables are 'low internal self-discharge' or something about coming ready charged. Normal high capacity rechargeables discharge themselves far too fast to be useful to take on a trip where you can't charge them up again.
