I would like a lightweight and small packing sleeping bag for use in summer/autumn (mostly summer!). I sleep warm, so there's no need for a lot of insulation. I doubt it will see below 5c.
I am not a regular camper at all, so it will only be for occasional use. However, if i'm buying something i'd rather it lasted many years.
I am 6ft3, so need something long, and do not want to be packed in so tight i cannot move my legs.
So far i've thought of the following bags: - PHD Minimus (this i think will be too restrictive on movement, and is expensive) - RAB Neutrino 200 (too short) - Mountain Equipment Xero 250 (currently my first choice, but very hard to find in XL)
Are there any options i've missed?
Ideally this would stay under £200, but anything around that figure is acceptable.
Thanks

.jpg) Worth looking at the Alpkit Skyhigh 600 They do a long version at 230cm. I'm not even on commission....

 |
That's double the weight of my other options and will potentially be too warm?

.jpg) Maybe that's why I'm not on commission.... I just thought it might be worth a look especially at the price.

I wouldn't write the RAB or PHD off. As per RABs spec the internal length is 6"2.5' so might well be OK. Should maybe be possible to check as plenty of stock about the place. And PHD aren't that agressive cf cut. You can find the detailed information via the DYO program or just e-mailing them. They do fit zips at need Here's a couple more options from UOG: Golite, WM, WM.

If i can i'd like to stick with a British company, so WM wouldn't be the top of my list. It's interesting though, as i've not heard of them before, and they do appear to have options for what i'm looking for.
RAB are going to be pushing it size wise. It's odd that they don't seem to do large versions of bags?
ME is still top, but PHD interests me a lot (if only for the reason it's made in an old style factory up north!).

Have you had a look at any down filled quilts?

RAB's lengths are odd yes They used to do normal/long but for some reason went for a single sort of 'inbeween' length for their new line. Which is great if you're 6"1 or 2, but otherwise somewhat suboptimal. Can't really understand it as ME produce a similar amount of bags but seemingly no problems with doing long versions too. If it matters, WM are at least made in America. If you're happy waiting a bit there should be the PHD summer sale relatively soon (a month or two?) there'll be minim 300's in that for I think a little less than the normal 200 fill ones are.

I'm 6ft 2 and recently had to return a RAB Alpine 600 bag because I found it too short while I had the hood fully cinched, even though I was in a silk liner, without socks. According to RAB's web site the 600 is one of their longer bags and should fit a person 6ft 2 1/2.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how roomy (for your legs!) the ME and PHD bags are?
|
 |
i've got a kathumandu XL bag and it's appears to be good for (estimated) 6'3" or 4. Not the warmest, but that might be that it's quite wide as well as long.

Well my PHD's DYO program has standard as suitable for widths up to 43" maximum measurement around the torso (wherever that is.). Seems to tally with mine that. (I'm comfortably within that and if anything almost too much space.). Not sure how that compares to others though. Plenty of length in long of course.
