had a go at filling in my gear list ... direful! I managed the boots and sleeping bag but there's no options for the rest of my stuff, I don't use the brands listed. Wish there was an "other" place which allowed you to specify.

I use Gossamer Gear's "The One" tent/shelter and their Murmur pack. I find both work a treat for me. I use other silk and homespun base layer, different things for waterproof jacket and accessories.

What options are there for long, below the bum & pref down to above the knees, waterproof jackets?  Everyone I see seems to offer a wet cold bum! Maybe good for climbing but what about those of us who don't?

Principally over trousers

There certainly are longer cut jackets, but mostly relatively 'heavy' materials (4/500g?) so probably not entirely in line with the rest of your stuff.... Certainly more weight than lighter jacket + light overtrousers.

Or Paramo for colder weather of course.

Martin, I've not found overtrousers I get on with - that don't undress me under a pack! - or not "feel funny". Mostly I live without a waterproof jacket. I agree, things the shape I like often weigh a ton - sigh. The Paramo Cascada or Aspra look possible - must actually go see - but I need a 2nd mortgage! I wish they'd say how long the damn things are.

The hunt continues ...

Rohan do a long walking jacket in their Barricade fabric, which is pretty breathable. Also Rohan tend to have a lot of sales so there's a good chance of picking it up cheap. But the jacket is pretty heavy as far as I can gather.

the latter a bit more of a leap in faith for walking though.

the hilltop jacket is nice.

Hubby has a Rohan. Both are a bit lighter than the paramo and a wee bit cheaper. Thanks Parky, shall have a look if I can see one in a shop to try on. There's a Rohan shop in Hay ... |Just watched the modelling video (good idea, Rohan!) and think I may be sold on the Hilltop jacket . Now I gotta find the money ... don't hold your breaths!

the haglofs cirque jacket is aimed at walkers - it is effectively a long version of their spiz jacket - made with pro-shell its realtively light, and has the usual haglofs quality.

They are usually £300+ but lots of haglofs sales around at the moment so maybe find one for half price somewhere?
