Looking for a fleece jacket well it started as a down gilet but I don't want to spend that much at the moment so decided upon a fleece for now. Has anyone got either the Keela Orkney or Skye fleeces? How warm are they? I don't normally wear jumpers or fleeces but now and again it gets a bit chilly just wearing a normal gilet over a shirt so a fleece seems logical. Is there anything else worth looking at for the same sort of money as the Keela? It also needs to be able in very large sizes.
I'm sure i noticed some Keela fleeces in TK Max last week and if i recall correctly they felt quite nice. Think they were quite thick so would be fairly warm (i.e. not micro fleece weight).
Well the Keela Orkney will be the warmer of the two, as it seems it's 300 weight fleece whereas the Skye is 200 weight.
I personally wear a Berghaus Activity Fleece, a 200 weight fleece but the fabric is Polartec Thermal, which is a lot warmer than standard fleece material.
I run cold generally, so I'm in my fleece most of the time.
If the Orkney is 300, unless you just stand still your likely to overheat. I've got a Lowe Alpine Aluetian jacket (which is 300), and unless you wear it by itself, you tend to roast, even if you run a little cold. My TNF 200 is fine under a jacket.
The Keela fleeces is my local TK seem to be between 100 and 200, and at less than £15, seemed good value.
Quick update I ordered an Orkney yesterday, and it arrived today. It's only been worn for a short walk tonight when I got home it was -2 outside and I was still toasty. It will have a better trial this weekend. First impressions are warm, well fitting and it appears to be well build, also the speed of delivery and the freebies from Keela were excellent from a customers point of view.
