Will a montane litespeed be durable enough?

Is there any reason why a montane litespeed jacket would not survive walking with my pack?

Should i look at something more durable? Its not like the windproofness can wear off is it?

Or can it? Or will it just fall apart after a little while?

If not, what do you suggest? Any other options anyone can give me that might be a little more durable (perhaps) but stay lightweight and extremely breathable?

It's the same Pertex as the Featherlite isn't it? If it is it'll be fine, my featherlite smock remains my most used bit of kit, probably ever and apart from the reflective dots falling off the rest of it is fine.

+1 to what Wurz said, my Featherlite is used on every trip to the hills at some point

Yup, microlight a pretty tough fabric. My lite speed survived snagging on a barbed wire untouched.

Quantum is the one you maybe want to be a little careful with.

 used mine for years,

top bit of kit, worn it on 6 crossings of Scotland lasting 2 weeks... TGO challenge & weekend walks etc. its slippy so doesn't "chafe" , "pull" (or wear out) either on pack or base layer.

 Good choice my man!     .........Lilo

As Martin says, I'd have no problem using my Litespeed with an 8kg pack (and have done).

I wouldnt do the same with my Rab Xenon though (Quantum GL)

well wait a min
my featherlight after 2 outings has scuff marks where the ends of velcro tabs have been rubbing on the material ,also , try gently pulling at the different panels sewn together, you could easily pull them apart, now put a rucksack on top of that , straps working away at the shoulder seams!! i now just put it on when stopped, and walk faster with it off.

I'd venture to suggest that the problem there is the exposed velcro - which will I think abrade pretty much anything - rather than the fabric itself Can't you cut them off or something?

If the stitching goes apart under a pack its defective and you'll get a refund!

ExperiencetheBivvy,
Sorry to hear about your experience. It certainly doesn't match mine. I've done mountain marathons in them, worn it over softshells u.der hardshells, with 4 or 5 different packs and not had any probs.

velcro, yes, i noticed it before it did to much damage, as for the stretching of the windproof, it must not be a problem then .
just funny stuff that pertex what ever it is.
my arktis wind proof has no give in it at all.

Interesting that stretch now you mention it I hadn't noticed but both my quantum wind shirt and the ~pertex 6 outer on my Buffalo thing do stretch just a tiny bit in some directions, while my other light windshirt doesn't stretch at all.

Suppose that it must have something to do with the way they weave the nylon together.
