I will do, my only fear is that they all seem quite skilled and practised and while I'd like to be with someone who knows what they are doing, I don't want to be messing up a trip for more experienced climbers. Maybe the solution is to place a thread myself, rather than tagging along on someone else's trip. Just need to find a free weekend, easier said than done.

If there is a meet Bridgit, you want to ask in their thread what they will be doing, they are all friendly, they wont mind you asking .

By and large, people on OM are very happy to share their skills; also, many of the meets include people of varying abilities. There's no better way to learn than going out with a group of more experienced people.

Whether lowland walking, mountain walking, or scrambling you'll meet friendly helpful people through OM.

BTW, I see you've been to Brecon and that lot of people on this thread are recommending north Wales but there's plenty of fine scrambling in the Lake District too. Have you been there yet?

I've done a bit in North Wales, Brecon many times, including the 30 mile Mountain Challenge last Autumn which was fun (forgetting with time of course the last five miles trudging through a bog in pitch darkness!). Kinder Scout and a few other smaller ones with the kids. Just one jaunt in the Lakes around Derwentwater, up into the hills on the East side and down around the lake. It's certainly very beautiful and I'd love to see more of the area. Where would you recommend for scrambling?

In the Lakes? Almost anywhere! To be honest, most of the fells have craggy bits that offer opportunities for easy ungraded scrambling.

Among the best known Grade One scrambles are Jack's Rake (on Pavey Ark, a cliff in the Langdale Pike), Striding Edge (on the way up Helvellyn) and the Sharp Edge approach to Blencathra.

One I particularly enjoy is the (easy) scramble up Stirrup Crag on Yewbarrow because of the fantastic views and because Yewbarrow itself is a first rate little mountain.

BTW, are you familiar with scrambling gradings?

Here are a couple of OM threads you might find helpful:
