Would love to do a walk with Muriel but I'm not sure she walks Munros any more, although her hubby Hamish is still into Munro-bagging apparently. Still, you never know, Her Munro Show set new standards for walking on tv and the accompanying book was one of the best books on Munros I've read. As for other celebrities, there ain't many of them who are keen hill-walkers. We've checked ad nauseum and most of them don't want to talk about the hills but about themselves... boring...

Mike Harding..obviously, Brian Blessed.. obviously, Madonna (who claims to like walking and needs the positive publicity, Stuart Maconi from Radio 2 (anything to keep him off air).. who loves the outdoors and walking,David Bellamy.. obviously,Annabelle Bond. There's a mini series to set you off.

Cameron thats the beauty of my idea. They are meant not to be hillwalkers. It's a public service to mankind of removing the mediocore no talented teeny boy/girl bands out of the gene pool, and entertain the public as they die slowly on camera.
I assure you tv viewing figures would go through the roof, the charts would improve, and mankind would be better off.

But on a serious note, maybe introducing a few celebs to the outdoors may help change their life and help them promote the outdoors to others.
You know Kylie in all her latest gear bought for the program gets blisters from boots not worn in but loves it, seeing her reaction etc etc etc.

Dave like my list better
Girls Aloud, Busted, Will Young - all talentless wastes of space

I'll even provide the bin liners...

I can't say fairer than that

I have to say where "Help I'm a celeb..." failed for me was when they let them walk out of the jungle alive.

I think I need professional help...

And I wasn't?!

Dave, I'm wounded by the thought...

I was preparing the paper work to submit to the Beeb. I'm sure it falls under their public service remit.

Just listened to Muriel Grey on Beeb website from last fridays Battlefield Ramblings. Surely if Muriel is doing those for Radio 4 she could be convinced to appear on a show with Cameron. Or "dream come true" write for TGO!!!

Oh dream the imnpossible I know, but blue sky thinking here folks

I'd like to see MG writing for TGO too - trouble is she seems to be a busy lady.

Oh and thanks to CMcN for the tip on Striding Edge videos - it's on my Christmas list!

I've actually spoken to Muriel about writing a column for tgo but I don't think she was very keen to be tied to a regular column. She is a very busy person with her tv company, her novels (she writes horror stories) and her family. However, we had those conversations some years ago and she and I write for the same Scottish Sunday newspaper, the Sunday Herald, so I might get the editor of that to have a word with her. Incidentally, I was very keen for her to appear as a guest on Wilderness Walks but the Beeb knocked that on the head because she did her Munro Show for ITV. Petty or what, but that's what you're up against?

Cameron, sounds like you need an independent to make it then tout it round the BBC and ITV.

You're right Dave, but we've been through that process. The television series' I've made, with the exception of one series I did for Channel4, were all made by an independent company called Triple Echo. We did The Edge, a History of Scottish Mountaineering then two series of Wilderness Walks. Richard also made a series about Wainwright, an excellent series called Climbers with Bonners and a couple of rock climbing series called The Face. These were all in the mid to late noneties. Then BBC2 changed its Controller to a very urban London-based female who had no interest in outdoor activities at all. As a result, outdoor activities as we know it vanished from the screens. Good news is that she has now left and our original BBC2 controller, Mark Thompson, is now the boss at the Beeb. Whether that'll make a difference I don't know but I'm sure Richard Else is working on it.

I remember Climb with Bonners and The Face, but the problem with programmes/series based on a particular area (even Scotland) is the way TV execs presume it will only be of interest in those geographical areas. That generally means it only gets shown in those areas and the rest of us miss out. Time for our own TGO Digital TV Channel I think!

The Wainwright series, Climbers, Wilderness Walks and The Face were all shown UK nationally on BBC2

Have you seen National Geographics A1 Channel? Some great programmes on there.

I've just cancelled Sky for the umpteenth time... I'm fed up watching programmes about man-eating sharks and crocodiles.

I've got teenagers and Sky's the best way to keep them quiet legally, but I never bother with the film or sports packages. Lately A1 have been running a series of people doing there own thing and filming themselves - like base jumping off the Troll Wall and Canoeing the legth of the Indus. No professional film crew or anything just ordinary people.

Dave,
gaffer tape is legal as well,
well until they manage to get free and call the police that is.

I have to admit Sky is good sometimes. Mountain week on BBC4 for starters.

Cameron,
All you need to do is persuade a Rangers and/or Celtic player to go on a hillwalk with you and maybe Setanta will put it on pay per view in the pub on a sunday!
