Excuse me if this is a stupid question but is it possible to take gas canisters onto a plane, not in my hand luggage but in checked in luggagage. Off camping in Switerland on the weekend and will be doing some cooking and would prefer not to have to spend time trying to find canisters while I'm out there.

Gas canisters are NOT permitted on a plane. Try and use the web to find where to get canisters in Switzerland.

Tony your best bet would be to buy one of those adaptor thingys so you can use piercable GAZ cannisters on screw in stoves, they cost about £12 I think.

I've got a Primus Omifuel, so I was hoping it would fit pretty much everything that is available. Don't make me eat my dinner cold, not after all that walking :)

Tony, we had problems finding screw thread cannisters initially when we went to Saas Fee. Not all camping shops stock them - and the campsite only had Calor/Camping Gaz ones.

The adaptor that Bryan mentions is a good idea if you can afford the weight / space (not that they weigh much...). We took one of those and also a stove that accepts the odd Camping Gaz catridges too.
