to ian s.america in a truck is tons more intresting than aus and n.z(sorry anzacs but lets face it thats why youre all here) aus is a big empty land with good wild life and coastal reefs but such huge distances it just does youre head in.many of the people who say its great have been no where else!n.z is great,if you get the weather and like it very very quit....
the trucks do vary alot.I went with the now deceased long haul expeditions(terry the owner died after catching a virus in n.africa)and the trucks were awful.overcrowded,to little storage and very slow which increased youre travel times hitched a lift with exodus while in kisangani(zaire)and they were much better but still had the usual marriage break ups,not to mention being full of antipedeans!having said all these negative things trucks are an easy intro to adventure travel with less risk than most and I made A couple of great friends that have stood the test of time. the best trucks ive been on were ashraf of holland absoulutely amazing!I hitched for 10 days with them for the price of 2 beers! kamuka were good aswell and everyone used to take the piss out of the rich poofy guerbas!but they were good aswell.
So you were impressed with Exodus...makes me feel a little better.
As for the marriage break ups, I think we are pretty solid after 10 years, so I'm not worried.
Yeah, what we are after is an easy intro like you say. We are also booked on a 28 day tour in the US with Trek America, have you heard anything about them?
cycled across plastic land in 88 with bikecentennial and parts of it are fab.the cascades wyoming montana may appeal as bryce and grand canyon.youll have A great time and you only live once,so enjoy.best not to cycle as it seriously messes your knees up. meet A guy leading A tour in swiss alps who use to lead for trek america, reckoned they were o.k so ian quite a little trip planned were when etc etc
I'll be in Rio Feb 4th next year. And then will travel on, all around the coast of South America, through Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Peru and Equador....then straight to...
San Francisco in May 2005. We then tour all the National Parks of the Western US and along the West coast.
Then onto Seattle and hopefully into Canada and even Alaska if we can beg borrow or steal passage, then home in mid July!
well done im green with envy!trouble with these long trips is they get addictive and its really hard to settle again!I should know ive now done 4!im a family man now so no more for a long while. you will have the time of youre life!
