Hello,
I will be back in the UK for a few days in November with my Mr and was wondering if anyone knows of a really good hotel in the Lakes with a good friendly atmosphere, log fires, great location and it must have really good food? Money’s not a problem as it’s a treat and he’s paying! Normally we camp, but I fancy a bit of luxury for a change.

Ravenstone Hotel on Bassenthwaite Lake. All you ask for and a snooker table.

Nether Wasdale, fab food, great rooms, log fires the lot.

Enjoy.

Wadale Head Inn. Haven't stayed there myself but drank there many a time and can't beat it for location!

I believe that Howard treats the hotel guests a far sight better than he treats the bar punters.

But I'd rather give the Strands/Screes my custom.

Guests?

At the Wassie Head.

Inmates more like if the bar's anything to go by.

:D

For history and location choose the Wasdale Head.

For food, good times, good company and a lovely location choose the Strands/Screes.

The Pheasant has the best food in the county, nice rooms, log fires, the lot. Is just off A66 between Keswick and Cockermouth. Small and exclusive.

Also try

http://www.hillthwaite.com/

and Linthwaite House Hotel, Windermere

and this is a good site, all good hotels although mostly much more cosmopolitan and southern than your normal wood smoke and red carpet Lakes hotel.

Could try the Seatoller House in Seatoller. Small and intimate very much with a focus on good/fine food but unpretentious - 8 or 10 guests only, communal meals at two shared tables, retire to the wood-panelled adjacent room for coffee and hand-made chocolates after dinner. Great cuisine when I visited last year (new ownership this year I heard, under which I have not visited). Location is village of Seatoller, right at foot of the Honister pass.
