Have TGO done a TrekSpec/feature on the Tatras from the Slovakian side? I have just spent a while going through the back issues and can only find one from the Polish side.

Has anyone got any experience of any of the travel companies that organise treks there.

I cannot recall ever seeing a magazine article on the Slovakian Tatras.

I went 5 years ago with Exodus and really enjoyed it, flight to Prague and overnight train to Slovakia. Wonderful walking, lovely people, would love to go back but there are just so many other places I also want to go to!

There was an article in TGO sometime in 1992/3 it inspired me to go out in '93. However nowadays it's easier to organise your own trip, EasyJet are now flying to Krakow in Poland and Bratislava in Slovakia. I went out to the Slovak side and camped, the walking was superb. If you want to find accommodation now just do a Google search on any of the villages running along the base of the hills on the Slovak side, e.g. stary Smokovec, or Tatranska Lominica. Also good were the Mala Fatra range just to the east of Zilina, very similar to the Cairngorms. NB I don't know if the regulations have changed but it used to be that you needed the consent of the local MRT/Guides to go anywhere off the marked trails, but they were happy with a BMC membership card.
