Are the jackets bigger then? Is a men's size small Viento bigger than a size small Velez (which is only just thin enough). Women's jackets are never on sale.

"Women's jackets are never on sale."
How about:
Cascada womens XS £125 - http://www.ultimateoutdoors.co.uk/show_stock.php?plu=12137
Alta II Lady Jkt XS £149 - http://www.ultimateoutdoors.co.uk/show_stock.php?plu=14036

Kat, the Velez is "unisex" but the Viento comes in a lady specific version down to XS. Another jacket to consider is the discontinued "unisex" 3rd Element Jacket which is available in Small to XXL (no mediums) at the Paramo Retailer of the year, 2004, for £99 (RRP was £180). They also stock all of the Lady Specific jackets - Cascada, Alta, Alta II, and Viento.

WOW! THose are good deals. Thanks for the help-it can be difficult to track down such good offers.
|
 |
BTW Where is the paramo retailer of the year?
|
 |
Sorry Kat, Whalley Warm & Dry is in Whalley, Lancashire. The website address is www.whalleyoutdoor.co.uk and you'll find out why I was a little reticent.

know this is an old thread but dont want to open another paramo thread and start another flame war but whats the velez like for wearing rucksacks/bergens 30lbs and over...?
|
 |
I was just wondering the same thing, Nick.
I was wondering where stocks Paramo in Edinburgh as well, if anybody knows.
|
 |
Can't answer the bergen question but Tiso, Rose Street, had a big selection of Paramo stuff a couple of months ago. (The Stirling branch had none when I was in on Saturday)

Regarding Velez:Bergen compatibility, is that in terms of fabric durability, hip-belt position, or leakage under pressure?
My initial experiences with the Velez suggest that it's like a less hot, more wind/rain proof, but equally versatile version of my Buffalo S6 Shirt. Similar cut, similar shell fabric (tougher I think), similar venting, etc. And the Buffalo was great when carting an excessively loaded Berghaus Vulcan (the daddy) around the hills.

Yet another blast from the past! Check those thread dates people!
The Velez is fine for carrying heavy loads. It's the same material as the Aspira, Alta, Cascada, etc.

I've got a Velez and a Viento, and I prefer the Viento for walking and backpacking. I find the hood easier to use, and the jacket warmer. I also like the venting options on the Viento. I use my Velez now for cycling.

Gordon, Aktive8 in Lothian Road stock some Paramo stuff but not a lot. CnDo in Stirling and Mountain Man Supplies carry a much better stock.
Mountain Man have an online store with 10% off shop prices at www.westerlypeaks.co.uk or .com sorry can't remember which.
I've had Paramo gear for years and if you want info regarding the gear, let me know, you should still have my email address.

I prefer to use a full jacket in the winter but find that the Velez is still a very useful garment.
The Velez works well with a rucksack as you can feed the hip belt through the Velez vents.
PW is right, the Velez is not quite as warm, but it is a little lighter and maybe more useful to be carrying in the spring or the autumn.
