Oh yes - no doubt easily picked up by radar when the MR are out looking for you. And handy for xmas too - just catch you bird first.
But would you REALLY wear that jacket???
depends on whether hypothermia is a viable alternative
As used by ambulance crews for hypothermics and incidentally issued to members of SARDA.
And radar for MR,not bloody likely, got enough to carry as it is :-)
Would it be better than carrying a Goretex bivi bag? It's certainly lighter, but is it viable?
just add a head torch and anyone wondering off the hills will look just like "cybermen" from the bbc's innovative new drama series "Dr Who"
<note to self; (1) buy head torch and bacofoil weskit (2) revert to childhood>
Well I don't think this is much of an innovation. We have been using "space blankets" for 20 years now. They don't look that different!
Ah but Tony, these are hi-tech and expensive space blankets. All they need's a logo and they'll be running out of the shops
wore somethink similiar after the london marathon ,they were shit then .....
It's the next Chav fashion, you mark my words.....
I don't mean to point out the obvious, but these are completely different to the bog-standard foil blanket - because of the layers they effectively trap dead air (insulating). (and no I don't work for them).Pepole have used them relatively effectively as sleeping bags on mountain marathons - something you could not do with a basic foil blanket!
cool...but there seems a gimmick for everythink these days?they provide soulutions for problems I never knew I had!
julian - you have just summed up 'effective marketing' LOL
What they really need now is a Blizzard Hat, to stop the aliens taking control of your mind....
I'm wondering why they are doing silver and olive colour options, I would have thought it preferable that a survival bag stood out like a sore thumb on a hill, which presumably is why most are orange. Just cant see the point of the jacket though.
Mikey
silver would be pretty stand outish on the hill and you could use it as a heliograph :-)
Cheap survival gear for the Forces? Replacing vacuum-packed downies? That would explain the olive bit. A bit noisy for escape & evasion gear, though, I would have thought...
Interestingly, Don Robertson, formerly of DCTA Farnborough (and author of the DoE book 'Workshop'), is rather scathing of the use of metallized mylar 'survival blankets'. Tests they performed in wind tunnels showed that such blankets tore to pieces if punctured, whereas a simple polythene bag provided as much insulation, whilst being much more robust. I would imagine the Blizzard bags lamination might make them more robust. I have heard good reports of the survival/sleeping bags.
