....in the Lake District or Yorkie Dales that they've been to with a young child?

I've promised to take my wife & 4 month old daughter away for a couple of nights in Nov. I'm thinking of either the Screes in Nether wasdale or the Bridge in Buttermere.

Yes, yes, yes, i know i could just ring them & ask if they're okay with sprogs, but i'd rather hear your views & tales of adventure with young ones in tow.

Any recommendations would be gratefully received. ta muchly

Not a hotel or a B&B - but the 'Walkers Hostel' in Ulverston - just outside the Lakes. They are more than happy to accommodate families with babies and will put a family room at your disposal as well as heaps of toys. They do a rate just for beds, if you self-cater, or B&B, or B&B and evening meal. Their website is http://www.walkershostel.freeserve.co.uk/ - but bear in mind that they've just gone to New Zealand for a month and therefore can't deal with any enquiries until early December.

I stayed at the Screes at Nether Wasdale with my two seven year olds this summer. Its quite an old pub, and I can't remember there being changing facilities in the very small ladies toilet. The room was adequate. We were drowned out of our (new) tent, so had the last twin room, and the kids shared. I wouldn't say it catered especially for families, but it is family friendly, and the staff bent over backwards to help us, which was the main thing. The food is very good too.

Julian - do you mean on the A65? Can you define 'a few miles'?

I drive along there a LOT and can't think which one you mean; it's such a long road with many pubs. Which village is it near (trying to help Willy)?

Off the top of me head, (mentally driving down it lol) on the right there is the Whoop Hall Inn in the Ingleton-ish area and near where you cross the Aire is the one named after the locks...can't remember what it's called but it's a 'family pub'.

gosh its a few years since I visited but im sure its the A65 about 2-5 miles past the m6 jct before you get to kirkby lonsdale.pub/restaurant downstairs ,rooms and then the top floor flat with nice views over the fells.
during my stay they held the local n.f.u.xmas bash which they do every year...hope that helps because it was very pleasant.

That sounds like a small one on the right just after the hamlets of Nook and Cow Brow - where the road gets narrow and twisty. Dunno its name

The one at the hamlet of Nook and Cow brow is the "Plough" at Lupton
and if you turn right at the signpost to Crooklands just before the M6 the Crookland hotel is also very good
