Many thanks for the kind words about CT's reviews – I know he'll appreciate it. As for more folk on the hills testing the gear, we're working on having CT cloned for Christmas as he's the only one out there who knows what he's talking about! – Judy excepted of course!

Somewhere back in this thread John Manning says he hasn't got room to keep his TGOs any longer - don't worry! - we've got every single issue here, though it took a while to track down the first few issues from 1978! I've subscribed for years and years - the gear section is ok, but the articles and features elsewhere in the magazine aren't as long as they used to be. eg,The Way to Go series is almost too simplistic,(and seems to be copying something Trail has done for ages)- it would be far better to devote those four or five pages to a longer article.

I dont know about the location of Extreme but try Hilltrek at www.hilltrek.co.uk as they also do Karisma fleeces

Am I punishing my gear or is my gear just not lasting as long as it used to do? Gimme some long-term gear test reports. Let me hear about how items failed, and if the manufacturers are keen to address faults. I've known snap-buckles that really snap, stitching that comes unstitched, fabrics that disintegrate, plastics that splinter, metal that bends or breaks, etc, etc.

Fair enough when outfits such as Tilley and Platypus have replaced products bought by me that have worn out, and those guys stand by their guarantees, but what about the rest? How about lining up the manufacturers and telling us about their after-sales pitch?
