Family Trek Holidays - any travel companies do them?

Last year, I had booked a 2 week trek in the French Alps with my family - wife and 2 sons, who will be 8 and 12 in the summer - all arrangements were done privately on the web.

What I would like would be an organised trekking holiday, where we would join up with other trekkers for the trip - however, there seem to be very few (if any????) companies that do this type of family trekking holiday?

Last Sept. I did Everest Base camp and in January, off to Cotopaxi - as part of a group, through Charity Challenge.

Nothing as strenous as these for my 2 kids, but something a little adveturous would be great!

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Thanks Doug

Tha t iste is pretty expensive

12 days in Nepal/Himalyas for 2 adults and 2 children - 12 and 8yrs = £8080!!!!

I am sure I could do it cheaper???

Anyone got any experience of arranging their own family trek?

Going to start a new thread on the subject I think!

The Guardian travel section had a feature a couple months back about a family trek in Nepal, which I think had a contact name of a local company. You may find the feature online. Small local companies may be the way to go. For Nepal I do recommend the Karyang Kurung agency.

Explore! have a family brochure - and you can look at it online by following the link to the left here.

I had been Nepal couple of time. I used the Local company (Mountain Sherpa trekking & Expedition) based in Katmandu, Nepal. They are very professional, expert to organize family trip as well as expedition & trekking. They provide very reasonable price & quality service. International companies are so expensive. just click http://www.guidenepal.com & contact Mr. Pasang Sherpa at: /forum/smilies/confused_smiley.gif[/img]ales@guidenepal.com]sales@guidenepal.com for you further travel arrangements. Have nice & safe holiday.

I should point out that I have nothing to do with KE Adventure Travel. I went with this company to the Indian Himalayas several years ago on the TGO trek and was aware from their brochures that they did family holidays as well as mountain bike trips.

I have added this post as I suspect that sumba sherpa has some involvement with the company he is promoting.

By the way staff at KE were very helpful especially when my outward flight from my home airport was cancelled and seemed to be well organised. My only complaint was the trek wasn't demanding enough for me at the time when I was younger and fitter.

sumba sherpa is fairly flipping annoying when he posts info on his travel company into my personal mailbox on OM forum, without my having first asked for it! Grrrrrr!!

Well, if you and your children enjoyed France, then La Balaguere have over 50 holidays for children in France which entail some walking.

La Balaguere are well-respected and not expensive. Can't see any on this list where you would hook up with other families though.

I haven't used them myself, but several friends have, and I've met people walking with them. All were happy with La Balaguere. If you speak enough French to get by, that'll be sufficient.

Cheers Judy
